Developments.
Jen received a message yesterday morning from IVSS, the UK shipping agents, telling us that the new anticipated date of arrival for Poki, into Cartagena, is now… wait for it… 25th August. A week earlier. Hallelujah!!
Retail therapy.
Much of yesterday was spent exploring more of the city. It’s not such a big city, but we have tended to keep to the more populated parts. However, pushing a little further out, we came across a major retailing area. We were looking to make a few minor additions to our wardrobes. For me, 3 shirts are starting to wear thin, so to speak. The choice of light cotton, short sleeve, ones on offer were a bit too flamboyant for this relatively conservative, trendy, creature..:) But what we did find, was a Bata shoe shop. Bata have been a household name in New Zealand for as long as I can remember and they have “affordable” shoes. Today we will go back and I’ll add a pair of strapped sandals to my only other, a pair of sneakers. $119,000 = NZ$48. Are just about affordable for a pensioner…:)
Weather
Oh, the weather continues to be…hot!! There has been some cloud, which makes a for slightly more bearable temperatures, generally 30-32 deg c during the day. The forecast a couple of days ago, when we had rain, and rain predicted for each day after. Not to be.
Some photographic observations.
He’s a big deal in this part of the world.
This colourful blighter walked straight past us, when sitting on a park bench.
How is he supported?…Very clever. Obviously via the pole, but for how long could he sustain it? And the pole was being rotated!! There are no supports behind him.
Decadence.
Scanning the menu.
The city comes alive at night. We walked past the ice-cream shop from the previous day and Jen said the girl who had served us, saw us and burst out laughing…:)
Rugby
I woke, unbelievably, at 2.30am this morning to sneakily watch, listen, or get some online feedback of the All Blacks v Argentina game in Wellington. Sprung!! Jen complained about the light and disruption to her beauty sleep. Not to wanting to disturb that process, I cowardly acceded to her wishes and put the computer down….:(. What I did see though, was that Australia had received a good ‘ol wupping from the Boks (Springbok’s of SA) 33-7. So it wasn’t till I was allowed, at around 7am, that I found highlights from the AB’s game on YouTube. The first couple of try’s by the ABs were spectacular, so I smugly assumed that was that. Not so, the Puma’s came back with some scintillating rugby and our record with them stretched to a second defeat in twenty years. 30-38. I’d love to see the whole game to find out where we failed and where we need to improve.
Reading
Daughter Sarah gave Jen a book to read, when we stopped off in Whistler on the way to the UK, several months ago. The book is ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’, by Delia Owens. We had seen the movie but the book is beautifully written.
