As Jen mentioned in yesterday’s blog entry, our planned tour did not eventuate. Update, the tour operator has agreed to a refund.
It’s a special day for Jen today, it’s her birthday, and to celebrate it, we took a tour to the Island of Love, or so it has been characterised over the last many years. Countless songs starting in the ‘30’s and by many popular singers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Franky Laine Bing Crosby etc have extolled it’s virtues.
It’s very popular as a result, and heaving with tourists like us. The ferry over. Takes about 50 minutes and this time we bought return tickets.
The shore line is really the only flat land, rising steeply to 589m. It’s about 10sq k’s in area. There is a funicular railway that takes you to the many hotels and boutique shops that cover the mountain flanks and top.

The upper part of the island has a labyrinth of ally ways serving numerous hotels. Capri would be a lovely place to spend a few nights.

There is no sand, only stones but that did not deter bathers.

The ferry back to Naples departed at 4.55pm and our day ended sharing a pizza at our regular jaunt. For entertainment, a betting shop a couple of doors down had a large screen TV outside and there must have been 50 people, including a Nun spilling out onto the busy road, watching Napoli play Inter Milan. Huge roars went up when Napoli scored twice in the first half but groans when Inter scored. The end result, 3 – 2 to Inter.
So ended another busy and enjoyable day. Jenny’s a year older but still a way to go to catch me…:)
