Sunday, 21st June. Back on the road again.

Tonight we’re in Overijse, south of Brussels.

It’s late in the evening and it’s been a long day, so this will be a brief update.

The last week has been rather hectic. Poki had to go back to the garage. The new rear cross member must be made of Chinese steel, not the good tough British variety. When Dennis tried to jack up a rear wheel, the port for the jack failed, collapsing like cheese. A supporting plate had to be welded in.

We also had my son James and three grandchildren staying for 3 days, visiting from the US.

We set off at 07.45 this morning to drive to Dover for the 2 hour ferry crossing to Dunkirk. The ferry company insist you arrive 2 hours prior to departure. Wise on a busy day, but today was reasonably quiet. I expected the new border entry procedure for Europe. Finger prints, face recognition etc, but all that was necessary was a quick glance at our passports by border control. Not even a stamp.

The crossing was dead smooth and we drove straight off with no more border procedures. Due to an incorrect programming issue, our route to this campsite was longer than necessary. We also met some heavy, slow traffic. It was around 7pm by the time we arrived and it is a hot, muggy evening. Soon back into the routine of putting up the tent, we cooked a quick dinner. Salmon and salad. At 10pm it is still daylight, being the longest day of the year.

Tomorrow we head into Germany in the direction of Erfurt and Dresden.
