Monday 12th August. Palomino. Colombia.

Arriving at our accommodation.

Jen mentioned in yesterday’s entry that we arrived in the rain. That would be an understatement.

However, today dawned the complete opposite. Lovely and sunny and all that was left were puddles ankle deep in the road down to the hotel.

We have now been in Colombia for 15 days. Amazing! And all things being equal, which of course when we are discussing shipping, they are not. So in theory, we have now 13 days till the ship arrives.

At the previous hotel in Santa Marta, we got chatting with another guest, Indian, who was giving me some tips on trying to resolve an ongoing back issue. Anyway he was telling us that he was in the hotel as his wife was rushed to hospital with a dangerous blood sugar spike that was within 30 min of ending her life. He is an officer on a container ship and it transpires that it is the sister ship to the one that Poki is on.

Jen woke this morning feeling…strange. That’s not a good sign. She suspected a urinary infection. Left untreated it can also be serious. So, after breakfast we walked perhaps 1.5 k’s back down the lane to a Drogerea (pharmacy) and we were able to buy the right antibiotics, over the counter. Brilliant.

Some observations of Colombia and her people. One, they love their music and they love it loud. Two, they are generally lovely people. Jen mentioned in a recent post, how family oriented they are. Extended families of several generations strolling hand in hand. Lovely to see.

Some pics taken during the walk and this evening in the restaurant of our evening meal.

I’m sure Jack’s building it..:)

A lazy day, sitting under an umbrella, reading our books.

They make excellent pizza’s.

Can you name the countries of each flag?

Hi Dennis & Jen, what an adventure! Plenty of twists and turns and certainly no dull moments. You’ll be counting down the days until Poki arrives. Glad you managed to grab that bag from the back of the bus and very happy to hear you emerged unscathed from that lightening strike! Sounds like no shortage of rain there. It’s been hot and dry here in Portland. Loving the blog and the photos!
