Saturday 4th July. Sighisoara to Sibiu. Romania.

4th of July. 250 years since Independence for Americans. Nothing more positive to be said.

No, you can’t say that, as there are millions of amazing Americans, but there are some not so amazing ones too..:) You’ll know what I mean.

This morning, after a great sleep, we had the task of drying out the Caranex. Boy it rained hard late yesterday, but remained dry overnight.

As Jen said, the camp site was expensive but very well provisioned for campers. By 10.30am we were packed and ready to hit the road. Our next stop, Viscri another historic and touristy town that amazingly has a house belonging to King Charles. It’s a very remote and …provinciale village with a historic fortified church from the 13th Century. There were dozens of other tourists

Iv’e seen dug-out canoes, but not dug-out water troughs! The Kings house is the blue one in the background. I wonder what his motivation?

They are getting close to departure time. The young as big as their parents.

The church and perimeter, undergoing restoration.

Next stop, Sibiu.

Another city with a historic and rather lovely centre only 76k’s from the last village, Viscari. It’s going to be a slow travelling day today with so much to see. The drive from the camp to Viscari was only 48k’s and like the next section, a delightful drive. For some reason after the small amount of investigation last night, to determine the turbo that the waste-gate was working, lubricating the shaft and reassembling, there was virtually no turbo whistle this morning. The most important thing, is that it is not stuck open, or closed, as that could be very serious for the engine.

So. Sibiu was bustling when we arrived at around 3.30pm. Streets were being prepared for a serious looking cycling event. We were told that’s it was to commence at 6.30pm and would be raced in a circuit in and around the old city centre.

Some of the same cycling team coaches we came across in France last year, were in attendance. Jen whatsapped son Tim, to ask him what he knew of the event? Tim said that interestingly it corresponds with the start of the Tour de France! Not sure I would be wanting to be riding here, as most of the streets are Cobbled!

Sibiu.

Here are some pics of the inner city. There was a Rather serious Vollyball competition going on…

Some descriptive graffiti…:)

A Romanian bear! Just a bit bigger than a teddy bear…:) It reminds me of a camper we saw a few days ago, who had a teddy bear riding with him in his backpack…:)

Camp for the night.

We are about 5k’s from the centre of Sibiu, at a campsite that is packed with German campers. A little like a camp a week or so ago that was packed with French camper vans. These are obviously travelling as a group too. We have a very communicative and lovely couple beside us. As we had last night too, with their adorable baby son, Arno.

The Transfagarasan

Tomorrow we undertake a trip made popular by the Top Gear team, several years ago, crossing the Carpathian mountains. Jen will provide an update tomorrow. I’m going to have to drive very slowly or face the wrath or revolt, of a nervous passenger..:)

International Rugby.

Two fantastic games today. Both down to the wire. The All Blacks played France in Christchurch and ended up victors by two points 34-32. I’ve just watched the highlights of both games and they were sensational. Aussie Wallaby’s went down to Ireland in Sydney by 31-33 after missing a penalty in the last seconds, which would have won the Wallaby’s the game by one point. No matter, they played magnificently. Well done to Ireland.
