Thursday 12th June. From Camping Parc Des Joumiers, St-Sauveur-en Puisaye to Saturday 14th in St Hilaire-sous-Romilly. France.

The forecast for the next week is looking brilliant. Our camp is idyllic so we decided a rest day was in order. The only downside to the camp is that we are way down at the far end, away from facilities, wifi, particularly. The upside, there is nobody around us.

So, a day of reading and relaxing. Not so for herself. Washing and tidying up and painting her toenails and other girlie things…:)

By 5.15pm it was cool enough to take a 2.5k walk around the lake, on our doorstep.

It was on return after enjoying some liquid refreshments and attending to communication, in the bar, that the mystery occurred.

Jen had discussed what we were going to enjoy for dinner tonight…RollMops!! That’s right, RollMops. Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve eaten some crazy stuff in my time, including Frey Bentos, but RollMops!!

Before commencing our walk, she put the jar with said Mops, on the table, under the awning, beside Poki.

On returning Jen entered Poki to commence dinner preparation, then from within, a puzzled question, “had I eaten the contents of the jar”? Sure enough, all that was left in it, residual, cloudy brine. No RollMops!!

So folks, I still have no idea what they are, or who took them. Not a bird, as the lid was tightly fitted. Nothing else seems to have been taken or disturbed. A fishy story if you ask me…:)

On the road at the ungodly hour of 10am!! How did that happen? Anyway, some more back roads and interesting country towns.

Lunch beside the Allier river in the back of Poki. A crispy baguette with tomato and cheese filling and pain au chocolat, to end it.

Sens

Then on to the larger town of Sens, where the below photo was taken.

Then onto a campsite. Driving towards the camp we passed a tyre repair shop. Brilliant. We have been expriencing a wobble at around 75kph that I put down to the rushed fitting of the new tyres in Paraquay. Sure enough, they were both out with respect to weight balance. The shop rectified that and would not take payment. How jolly good of them.

Our camp was Municipal, but now an automated site for camping cars. Still. there were plenty of grassy sights, so we paid our 11€, the barrier arm rose, and we set up camp.

It’s been a day of 30+ degree temps and the night was reminiscent of South America. Hot and very uncomfortable.

Locked it at our camp site!!

On leaving this morning, the machine would not accept the code it had printed for us last night on entry, and raise the barrier arm. After trying to raise someone on the phone, to be told, they don’t work Saturdays! Desperate measures were required as we sure as hell were not going to sit it out till Monday. There was just enough space to the right of the barrier and a wall, planted out in roses, to squeeze Poki past. The stone work dislodged was repaired and the roses, they were fine. ..:)

Being on the northern side of the Loire, we are now very much in Northern France. We are in a huge camp with all facilities but very expensive at 33€, with no wifi on site.

Troyes

The center of the city is magnificent, with a historic center that is the most picturesque I think I have seen. The photos do not do it justice. People are enjoying food and drink on the pavement beside cafe’s and restaurants. The centre of fashion and knitware. Pop 62,000 and with huge distribution and logistics warehouses.

It’s forecast for an electrical storm tonight. It seems to happen like that after hot muggy weather. Lets hope the temperatures drop, with it.

  1. Loving the journey through France. Looks magical, getting lost in one of those historic villages. I read these blogs while sitting at work and they pull me through the day – as I imagine the adventure! By the way, being a Star Wars fan, I appreciated the photo of that X Wing!

    • Hi Logan, nice to hear from you. Maybe time to start planning another adventure?
How’s the little man enjoying school? 😉
